Literature Search Service

A literature search service is available to staff to support your work-related research, commisioning and clinical decision-making. Searches are conducted by qualified librarians.

To request a search, please complete this Literature Search Request Form

Enquiry Service
In addition to conducting literature searches, we provide a general enquiry service. You will receive a response within 24 hours, during Monday to Friday. If our staff are unable to answer your query, where appropriate, we will refer it on and let you know. Contact the library with your enquiry.

NICE Evidence Search

Nice Evidence search
is a web based portal that provides free open access to a unique index of authoritative health and social care evidence-based information.

For a more advanced search use the healthcare databases to search for articles on specific topics of your choosing.

We recommend attending a training session with one of our Librarians to learn how to do thorough and relevant searches and effectively manage your results.  Please refer to our training page for details of current courses.

Critical Appraisal
For assistance in examing research for trustworthiness, value and relevance, we recommend referring to the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP) website where you'll be able to access a variety of useful resources including CASP tools and checkslits. The CASP website can be accessed at
